Nehemiah Project
Modern Day Exodus –"Step into the Story"
An emotional elderly man held onto his wife as they realized their lifelong dream of setting foot in Israel, where they will spend the rest of their days. They have come from Argentina, Jewish immigrants thankful to finally be "home." They are part of a swell of immigrants, gathering from all over the world--France, Russia, Asia, Latin America- -being drawn to Israel, a country many have never seen, which didn't even exist when some of them were young. A place they regard as their spiritual home. Several members of Maranatha Chapel were on hand to witness this prophetic event.
Why is this phenomenon happening? God once promised His chosen people a land of their own (Genesis 12:1 and 15:7). For centuries, however, the Israelites were scattered "among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other" (Deuteronomy 28:63-64). But God promised that Israel would be rebuilt: "With loving kindness I have drawn you. Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt" (Jeremiah 31: 3-4).
God called upon Gentiles to share in the rebuilding: "Thus says the Lord God: 'Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations, and set up My standard for the peoples; they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders'" (Isaiah 49:22). Here God invites Gentiles to "Step into the Story" of the Jewish people as they are re-gathered into their ancient homeland. To aid in this modern exodus, we have launched the Nehemiah Project "Step into the Story" as a means to help Jewish immigrants with the practical costs of returning home.
