Kenya Missions 2009 Report

Wednesday, July 29:
A full day for the Kenya team today ...we visited 2 schools in the Kibera slum. (largest slum in East Africa- over 1.4 million people living in extreme poverty) The sights and smells do assault the senses and our western thinking but the believers are amazing. We spent the morning in Hope Streams School, 175 kids K- 10 grade, a school that the previous Maranatha team had visited. They sang worship songs and recited bible verses and stole our hearts.  Our team members taught each class for a few hours and then took them out to play games.

One highlight: the school had just dug a deep pit for a latrine and struck water. Water is a precious thing in the slum, most are forced to carry 5 gallon jugs long distances for thier daily needs from largely polluted water sources.
The well was a blessing but the water was not suitable for drinking only washing etc. Guess what I tossed into our ministry supplies before we left?  A portable water purification devise capable of purifying 300 gallons of water a day! The school principal was so grateful....God used us to provide clean water for 175 kids and thier families.

The afternoon took us to another school in the slum called Upendo School...about 30 small kids 3 years to 8 years.
The head teacher attends Calvary Chapel of Nairobi. It has been a hiuge blessing to watch our team work together with the believers here.

Pray for team health ...one has a cold another slight injury...both are still going strong.  Trying to send pictures.
Blessings
